Nashville Area Flood Relief

Jewish organizations around the country are working with the Jewish Federation of Nashville & Middle Tennessee to support local flood relief efforts since torrential rains inundated the Southeast, causing extensive damage in Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi.

Haiti Earthquake Disaster Relief

On January 12, 2010, at 5 p.m. Haiti was hit by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, the most powerful to strike the Caribbean nation in 200 years. The quake's epicenter was only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince, the country’s capital with a population of about 1 million. Thousands are feared dead and many more injured. It is known that the quake inflicted large-scale damage to Haiti’s infrastructure. Hospitals and health facilities were destroyed, and the capital was thrust into darkness as electricity went out across the city.

The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), the world’s largest Jewish humanitarian assistance organization, is collecting funds on a non-sectarian basis for relief efforts following the catastrophic earthquake.

In this difficult financial climate, our non-profit agencies need support more than ever. Below is a list of funds that assist those in our community most in need:

The Assistance Plan (TAP Fund) of Village Shalom: Ensures that assisted living residents can contine to receive quality care in a Jewish environment, even after their resources run out

The Chaplaincy Program of Jewish Family Services: Helps anyone in the community who seeks spiritual support during a time of crisis. In particular, sick and older adults have benefited from this non-denominational counsel

The Chesed Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City: Assists a growing number of individuals/families that are experiencing chronic financial difficulties

The Gesher Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City: Provides funds for families and individuals who are facing economic crisis by helping pay rent, utility bills, and other necesities

Jewish Senior Network of the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City: Provides information, referral services, needs assessment, case management, and financial subsidies to Jewish seniors and disabled adults.

Life Crisis Assistance of Jewish Family Services: Provides a caseworker to help individuals and families in our community gain access to a variety of social and emergency services.
