Community Legacy Fund: Spring 2011 Grants
In May of 2011, the Community Legacy Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation awarded $204,500 in grants to support its goal of enhancing and maintaining the quality of Jewish life in the Greater Kansas City area. The following agencies received funding:
- Community Kollel received $11,000 to provide meaningful educational experiences to Jews of all ages in Kansas City
- Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy received $35,000 for needs-based scholarships
- The Jewish Community Center was awarded $10,000 for summer camp scholarships
- The Jewish Community Center received $6,000 to enhance its Department of Adult Jewish Learning
- The Jewish Community Relations Bureau/AJC was awarded $21,000 to support a lecture series which will educate the Jewish community on how to react to anti-Israel sentiments and anti-Semitism
- Jewish Family Services received $20,000 for the Community Chaplaincy Program which provides spiritual guidance for those in hospitals and elder care institutions
- Jewish Family Services also received $35,000 to assist older adults and adults with disabilities
- The Jewish Federation was awarded $40,000 for the Chesed Fund which offers safety net funding for those with chronic financial need
- KU Hillel received $3,000 to purchase Hanukkiah and candles for Chanukah, food and supplies for Passover and educational resources
- The Rabbinical Association received $3,500 for the Day of Discovery program, a one day community-wide Jewish educational event
- Village Shalom was awarded $20,000 to support Jewish residents at the facility who have outlived their financial resources
