Strike the Match & Ignite Your Legacy: Introducing the Bushman Community Endowment Legacy Match

When you make an outright endowment gift to a local Jewish communal organization or synagogue, your gift will be matched 1:3!

Thanks to the generosity of the Stanley J. Bushman Charitable Supporting Foundation, the Bushman Community Endowment program offers $5 million in matching funds to encourage donors like you to strengthen endowment resources for the Kansas City Jewish community.

By making this commitment during your lifetime, your gift begins working for the community right away.

Eligible gifts include cash, appreciated securities (stocks and mutual funds), and IRA distributions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the Bushman Community Endowment (BCE) Match?

The BCE Match is a matching gift initiative designed to increase permanent endowment resources for participating Jewish organizations and synagogues. Eligible donor gifts generate additional matching dollars for the organizations you care about, further leveraging your generous support.

  • How does the match work?

When you make a qualifying gift to a permanent endowment fund benefiting a participating agency or synagogue, matching dollars are added to that organization’s Stanley J. Bushman Endowment Fund held at the Jewish Community Foundation.

  • What types of gifts qualify for the match?

Eligible gifts may include cash, appreciated securities, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) from an IRA, and other qualifying lifetime gifts. Contact JCF to confirm eligibility.

  • Does my gift need to be made now, or can I simply include an organization in my estate plan?

To trigger matching funds, the gift must be completed while matching funds are available. Future commitments are a wonderful way to leave a legacy and will be a part of the broader initiative, just not matched as part of this opportunity.

  • I already have a legacy commitment. Can I still benefit from the match?

Yes. If you choose to fulfill (realize) all or part of an existing legacy commitment now, or while matching funds are available, your gift may be eligible for matching funds.

  • I do not have a legacy commitment. Can I still participate?

Absolutely. Any contribution to a qualifying endowment fund will trigger the match.

  • Can I establish my own endowment fund at JCF and qualify for the match?

Yes. You may establish an endowment fund in your name (or anonymously) for the benefit of one or more participating agencies or synagogues. Such funds can also be set up to grow and then begin making distributions at a certain date or upon the fund reaching a certain balance. These funds are customizable to meet your personal goals.

  • Can I support a program I care about?

Yes. Restricted endowment funds may be created to support specific charitable purposes, programs, or areas of interest. Best practices for such contributions include working with the beneficiary organization to develop the gift agreement language and to include a contingency in case the gift is not practicable. The Bushman matching funds will be unrestricted to the agency or synagogue.

  • Where do the matching dollars go?

The matching dollars are added to the participating organization’s Stanley J. Bushman Endowment Fund held at JCF for unrestricted annual support of the beneficiary organization or synagogue.

  • Do the matching dollars go into my fund?

No. Your gift is directed to your selected fund, while the matching dollars will become part of the organization’s Stanley J. Bushman Endowment Fund.

  • Can I use my IRA to make a qualifying gift?

Yes. Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) may qualify when directed to an eligible endowment fund.

  • Can I donate appreciated stock or mutual funds?

Yes. Gifts of appreciated securities qualify and may offer additional tax advantages over gifts of cash.

  • How do I get started?

Contact the Jewish Community Foundation to discuss your goals, available giving options, and eligibility for the BCE match. You may also connect with a representative from the desired beneficiary organization or synagogue.
